Steve “Skippa Kippa” Wright

Steve is the club’s youngest and most dashing male skipper. He has been with the club for nearly 11 years and an active skipper for five or six years.

His mantra is “safety first”. To date, Steve’s claim is that not one single person has broken a nail and certainly nothing more serious has happened. This is despite his liking for having a bit of fun (when all the odds are going for him). This includes doing down the Beaulieu in total darkness and close proximity sailing in rivers. He did enjoy a tin of Abbot (his favourite tipple) while on the putty 10 metres from Lymington Town Quay the other year – but it was totally dark and no one could see him!

He makes sure nothing more touches the gel-coat than water, the odd glass of wine, the occasional bit of vomit (or Lymington Town Quay).

He did enjoy a nice sun bathing session in a gale in the middle of the English Channel for 12 hours a few years ago!

Steve has a relaxed light hearted approach. Although sometimes he is found on an afternoon down below in a horizontal position with his eyes close with his eyes closed while he actively worries if the crew are happy.

Steve’s soft Welsh accent hides that he is now 25 years into his Missionary Work in the South of England.

He is married with a daughter and is a leading consultant in the IT industry. He knows nothing about computers.
