RBYC Cruising Events, including Skills Development, Passage Making & Social Events

Our planned cruising events are available on our website for member registration.

Trips are planned from March to November and consist of a varied mix including weekend skills "brush-ups", longer mile building trips and some charters further afield in the UK or elsewhere.

If you would like a particular trip added to the schedule please let me know and we can see if there is enough interest for it to be organised.

The cost of each trip is a straight forward calculation based on the total expense and number of crew. The price ranges from less than £140 to £300 for a standard weekend in the Solent area depending on the season and the type of vessel. Victualling and mooring fees are extra, of course.

Most weekend trips are run over a weekend from Friday evening from about 7 p.m. to Sunday at 5 p.m.  We sometimes plan longer trips over the bank holiday weekends and some longer UK charters as well.

The boats are not overcrowded. Typically an 11 metre 8-berth yacht is usually manned by a Club Skipper plus a maximum of four crew.

Our Club Skippers, who are all RYA Yachtmaster Offshore or Coastal Skipper qualified, skipper bareboat charters and are responsible for, amongst other things, the safety of the vessel and crew throughout the weekend.

The crew is actively encouraged to take part in all aspects of running a boat including navigation, helming and close quarters handling. Tell the Skipper what you would like to practice and if there's an opportunity you'll get your chance.

Cruising at the RBYC is organised by myself and you can contact me with ideas, event feedback or suggestions.
