Penny Tranter has had 35 years working at the Met office, and is a sailor. It would be hard to find a more suitable speaker for our ‘Sailing weather’ evening.

Penny understands the importance of weather to sailors, but, unlike most of us, well, she can read and interpret the clouds, satellite pictures, weather data, weather maps and so on to explain what is going on and what might happen next.

Penny Tranter is currently a Met Office Advisor working in Southwest England, providing professional meteorological and climate advice, primarily on severe weather, to emergency responders and planners. Previous roles have included: national and international BBC weather presenter, Meteorology Training Manager at the Met Office College and a member of the official Met Office weather forecasting team for the sailing events in Weymouth during the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. She is a Chartered Meteorologist and a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society.

Penny enjoys sailing, powerboat instructing, swimming, walking, cinema, theatre, watching tennis, Bath and 6 Nations Rugby, and girlie weekends.

This event is free for RBYC members, for non-members £3 fee applies (registration using the link below).

Please share, I’m sure that anybody interested in observing weather would enjoy this evening.
