AKA 'Zen'. After racing dinghies for several years, my early encounters with yachts came through the RYA courses in St Crispin’s night school, Wokingham.
Turning yachting theory into practice I joined the RBYC at its inception. I enjoy chartering, to experience the variety of yachts and cruising areas, and the great mix of people to sail with.
I enjoyed being Chairman of the Management Committee for a number of years and Commodore for a couple, and continued my involvement as a committee member until I moved to Lymington in 2017, being involved in the plans and activities for the club’s development. I also enjoy being a club skipper.
I have been sailing Tall Ships for the past 20 years as a Watch Leader and Mate, with the Tall Ship Youth Trust on the Sir Winston Churchill, Prince William, Stavros Niarchos and the Global Challenge yachts. Magical times.
In 2000/2001 I was privileged to be a crew member on the BT Global Challenge, sailing three legs of the toughest yacht race in the world. An extraordinary experience of extreme sailing and fantastic teamwork.
