2017 - Skills, Passage Making & Cruising Events

The 2017 RBYC cruising events are available online for member registration.

Trips are planned for every month from March to November and consist of a varied mix including two day skills "brush-up", mile building and a warm weather trip.

The Tall Ship's Regatta remains in the calendar for November as usual but this year with a new Skipper at the helm.

The cost of each trip is a straight forward calculation based on the total expense and number of crew. The price ranges from less than £140 to £300 for a standard weekend in the Solent area depending on the season and the type of vessel. Victualling and mooring fees are extra, of course.

Most trips are run over a weekend from Friday evening from about 7 p.m. to Sunday at 5 p.m.

The boats are not overcrowded. A 10m yacht is manned by a Club Skipper plus a maximum of five crew.

Our Club Skippers, the majority of whom are at the level of RYA Yachtmaster Offshore, skipper bareboat charters and are responsible, amongst other things, for the safety of the vessel and crew throughout the weekend.

The crew is actively encouraged to take part in all aspects of running a boat including navigation, helming and close quarters handling. Tell the Skipper what you would like to practice and if there's an opportunity you'll get your chance.

Cruising at the RBYC is organised by myself and Dave Laws and you can contact either one of us with ideas, event feedback or suggestions.

Dave and I hope you enjoy this year's events and we thank all those members who contributed to the final schedule.

See you on the water!
